The Health Careers Institute provides opportunities for high school students from New Hampshire and beyond to explore different areas of health care as a discipline. We do this through experiential and academic endeavors. These experiences include visiting clinical settings such as Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC). Additionally, participants have opportunities to converse with health care professionals including physicians, nurses, and research scientists.

Who Should Come?

Typical Health Careers Institute participants have expressed interest in working in health care and want to know more about clinical and non-clinical health careers and what to do next to help narrow their focus or pursue their dreams.

What the Health Careers Institute at Dartmouth Offers

Outstanding Faculty

The faculty at the Health Careers Institute includes health care professionals from the Dartmouth community, as well as colleagues from other educational and health institutions around the country.

Students are provided the opportunity to ask questions and learn from professionals in various fields of health care. The areas range from public health, health policy, and direct health care (medicine, nursing, therapy, etc.) to questions about what health care will look like in the future.

Learning Activities

Classroom instruction, team-based academic projects, hands-on experiences at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, work with simulated patients, and dialogue with current health professionals and health profession students are all part of the experience.

College Immersion

Participants will live in a college dorm and eat most of their meals at the college dining facility. Additionally, time is dedicated to teaching students about the college application, admissions, and student experience.
